"Your career is like a garden, It can hold an assortment of life's energy that yields a bounty for you. You do not need to grow just one thing in your garden. You do not need to do just one thing in your career". -- Jennifer Ritchie Payette.
You see, a lot of people know exactly what they want to do with their lives from an early age, heck! I thought I did until I got mesmerised by this incredible world of Tech. People, for example, say that they want to be a doctor when they grow up and as planned they'll excel in science, get accepted into med school, and become doctors. In my case, I studied law for 5 years, did 1 year of law school, got called to the Nigerian Bar, practised law for the past 4 years (still practising law in fact). It is crazy that after all that, you decide you don't want to do it anymore.
So yeah, I would be lying if I say the decision to switch careers or even simply explore other career options isn't scary, It totally is. I keep telling myself that I'm crazy for trying and it's safer to just stay in this box that I'm familiar with. I mean, up until a few months ago, when I became interested in Tech, I thought cloud was a fancy name for my iPhone storage that Apple keeps billing me for every month 😂. But then, I dabbled into the world of Tech and I was intrigued by how fascinating and enthralling it all is. So, whenever I'm in doubts, I tell myself, Do it scared! -- I don't care if you are scared, girl! You are going to do this.
If you are also new to Tech (to be honest, this paragraph is more of an advice to myself), you will feel unsure of yourself so many times, you might feel like you are in over your head and that's not a unique feeling, I imagine even experts in this industry also feel that way now and then. So just focus on learning, stay curious, and be consistent and I promise you, you'll get a hang of this soon enough.
I don't mean to sound like a self-help book at this point, but here is a quote from one of the most daring women in history - "Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world". -- Harriet Tubman
BEST OF LUCK TECHIES!
